Van Metre believes that success has everything to do with the values that we hold dear. For Van Metre Companies, those values are: IntegrityOwnershipRespect and DignityDiversity and InclusionTeamworkCommunity, and Work/Life Balance

Together, these values spark actions – actions that demonstrate respect for the welfare of others, ownership of one’s work and word, recognition of both the impact of one’s actions on others and the value of their contribution.

Diversity & Inclusion are so important to Van Metre Companies, that not only are they a dedicated core value (stated below), the company has recently formed a Diversity & Inclusion Council to help apply these values through action – both within the company and in our community.

  1. Upholding our commitment to diversity and inclusion as it relates to all employees and communications, and seeking diversity of experience in our programs, policy formulation, and decision-making.

  1. Accepting all others without biases based on differences of any kind, including age, race, religion, national origin, gender, gender orientation, sexual orientation, or physical or mental abilities.

  1. Being a leader in our industry and community in recognizing and addressing inequity and injustice.

  1. Acknowledging and honoring the fundamental values of equality, dignity, and fairness and committing to maintaining an environment that respects individuality.

“There are individuals from all Divisions of the Company on the Council. It is a critical step in fully realizing our Diversity & Inclusion Core Value.  The Council’s initial mandate will be to make recommendations on how we can continuously improve on being a more diverse and inclusive workplace, and how we can make a greater impact on these issues in our community.” President and CEO of Van Metre Companies.

The Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Council, comprised of 13 employees, representing each division of the company, held several preliminary meetings to elect officers, select executive sponsors, and define a mission statement.

“Members of the Council will formulate initiatives to promote diversity and inclusion and will offer ideas on how Van Metre can provide greater support to our diverse team.  Members also will formulate ideas for how Van Metre can truly embody the values of diversity and inclusion.  The initiatives and ideas will be for use both within the Company and in the community.” Vice President of People Operations.

The D&I Council published the following mission statement:

“The Van Metre Diversity & Inclusion Council seeks to facilitate the company's ongoing and continuing efforts to foster a culture and atmosphere that honors the company’s Core Value of Diversity & Inclusion.  We recognize that creating a diverse and inclusive environment is not only the right thing to do, it is the smart thing to do.  Van Metre's continued commitment to diversity and inclusion will have tangible benefits, including spurring innovation, enhancing business strategy, attracting the best talent, and ultimately, improving the bottom line.

The Van Metre Diversity & Inclusion Council will work to:

  • Promote diversity at the company by recommending strategic initiatives to recruit, support, retain and advance talent from diverse backgrounds.

  • Assist leadership in the implementation of programs and policies to promote and maintain a diverse and inclusive environment.

  • Organize and promote activities in our community and in our industry that address inequity and injustice.

  • Communicate diversity and inclusion initiatives, actions and results to all interested parties inside and outside the company.”
